Your Appointment

What should I expect at my GNMI appointment, including support people, children, accessibility, technologist requests, and results?

Overview

This article covers practical questions about attending an appointment at GNMI, including children, support people, accessibility, technologist preferences, and imaging results.

What You Need to Know

  • Children are discouraged from attending appointments. Some tests use radiation, and exam rooms need to stay distraction-free. Children cannot enter radiation rooms.
  • Support persons may not always be able to enter the exam room. This depends on the exam and safety requirements. For example, only qualified technologists may remain in some radiation rooms.
  • GNMI does not have mechanical lifts. If you use a wheelchair and cannot transfer independently, GNMI may be able to accommodate if you need only minimal help and can assist. The FAQ asks patients in this situation to bring a support person.
  • You may request a male or female technologist. GNMI will try to accommodate the request, but availability is not guaranteed.
  • Sonographers cannot provide results. They are not physicians. Only your doctor can diagnose or advise treatment.
  • Reports can be sent to another doctor. Tell reception if you want a copy forwarded to another physician.

Before Your Appointment

Contact GNMI ahead of time if you:

  • Need help transferring
  • Use a wheelchair or mobility device
  • Need a support person to attend
  • Prefer a male or female technologist
  • Have questions about bringing children
  • Need your report sent to another doctor

What to Bring

  • Your requisition
  • Health card, if applicable
  • Any mobility aids you use
  • A support person if you need transfer assistance
  • Names or details for any additional doctor who should receive your report

Safety Notes

Some imaging rooms have radiation safety restrictions. Children and support persons may not be allowed in these rooms. This is for safety and image-quality reasons.
