Booking and Appointments
How do I book an imaging appointment at GNMI, do I need a requisition, and is my exam covered by OHIP?
Overview
A requisition is a medical order from a licensed physician or authorized healthcare provider. GNMI performs imaging tests only when they have been requested by an authorized provider. Your requisition does not have to be on a GNMI form; GNMI accepts valid requisitions from any licensed physician or authorized provider.
What You Need to Know
- Most tests require booking. General X-ray is walk-in, but ultrasound, MRI, CT, and specialized studies are booked appointments.
- A requisition is required. Imaging tests are performed only when requested by an authorized provider.
- A GNMI requisition is not required. GNMI accepts valid requisitions from any licensed physician or authorized provider.
- OHIP usually covers medically necessary services. A small percentage of services are private pay when not medically indicated or when the patient does not have OHIP.
- Services vary by location. GNMI locations may offer ultrasound, X-ray, mammography, bone density, MRI, CT, and other services, depending on the site.
Before You Book
Have your requisition ready before booking. If you already have one, you can book through GNMI’s online booking page.
If you are unsure whether your exam is OHIP-covered or private pay, confirm with GNMI before your appointment.
How to Book
Patients can book an appointment at gnmi.ca/book-appointment or use the live chat.
Wait Times
Most routine procedures are scheduled within two weeks, while MRI, CT, or specialized ultrasound may take longer. Because wait times can change, patients should confirm current availability when booking.
What to Bring
Patients should bring:
- A valid requisition
- Health card, if applicable
- Any instructions provided at the time of booking
- Any relevant prior imaging or reports, if requested by GNMI
Safety Notes
Some exams involve ionizing radiation, such as X-ray, CT, mammography, BMD/DEXA, and some nuclear medicine exams. Tell GNMI before your appointment if you are pregnant, might be pregnant, or have safety concerns related to your exam.
